Teams and Camps

Teams: Kitchen Team

Everyone participating in Cumbre Yah! will be a part of at least one team during the event. Teams help make sure everything runs smoothly in order to allow maximum enjoyment of all attendees. Current teams include:

  • Medical Team: Members of the medical team will provide basic first aid.
  • Kitchen Team: Members of the kitchen team will prep and cook meals. They will also handle kitchen clean-up following meals.
  • Department of Public Works:. Members of this team will be prepared to handle power outages, water issues, etc.
  • Books, games, and toys team: Members will check out books and equipment to attendees, as well as staff the library and toy facilities.
  • Transportation team: Members will handle shuttling attendees to and from town. We need people with big vehicles for this team!
  • Greeter team: Members of this team greet and orient participants when they arrive to Cumbre Yah!.
  • Ranger team:. Members will patrol the property during the event to answer questions, provide help with fires or campsites, and help with problems.
  • Staff team: General service. This team is limited to a small number of people. Everyone on this team will be asked to work at least 5 hours per day, and will arrive a day early to help set-up. Participants on the staff team are guaranteed a bed in a cabana.

Theme Camps:
If you wish, you can create or join a theme camp. Theme camps will provide a variety of entertainment and services, toys and discussion groups! We have collected some ideas of good theme camps from other festivals, but you are also welcome to introduce an idea! If you'd like to be a part of or create a theme camp, let us know and we'll do our best to help you.

JuiceriaYou don't need to know other participants in order to be in a theme camp. If an idea interests you, we can connect you with other attendees so you can work together.

You also don't have to be a part of a theme camp to provide a service. If you want to schedule an event and lead it on your own (maybe you want to lead a yoga class a couple of mornings), just let us know. Theme camps are designed so participants can work together to create a service appreciated by all.

Some of our ideas for theme camps include:

  • providing coffee in the morning. Maybe you will set up a coffee bar where attendees can relax and chat and listen to soft music in the morning around a nice hot outdoor fire.
  • face and body painting. Give participants a bizarre makeover!
  • running a free bar. We also encourage folks who want to drink to BYOB and share mixed drinks. Mulled wine and spicy spiked cider to provide two kinds of warmth on a chilly evening!
  • providing a healing center where you and others will provide massage, masks, etc. We have one person who is able to provide a massage table for this camp!
  • Tarot camp: read tarot cards and provide attendees with their fortune.
  • Provide a chill space: a comfy place to relax and chat in a shaded spot.
  • Dancing: teach the tango! or whatever dance you're good at.
  • Create an event for the schedule - teach a course, host a party, etc. You are welcome to serve a meal, just let us know so we're prepared.
  • Modify or make use of an existing activity. For example, host an ultimate frisbee game at the trample space! Or have a poi spinning contest.
  • Other services that provide cool events/foods/fun to Cumbre Yah! Be creative! Be fulfilling, goofy, and fun.

You may wish to join a current theme camp. Some of the current camps include:

  • Black rock camp: provides trampoline, studio space for painting and photography, an outdoor stove for public use. There is a telescope for astronomy at night. Morning music and possible dance party.
  • Arcoiris camp: Outdoor stove, bread oven, and library.
  • The Juiceria: Serve juice to participants - we have juicers available.
  • View camp: photo uploading, dart board!. This is where you can check out various toys available.
  • The Implant Theatre (movie theater camp): People in this camp are looking for a projector. Movies will be added to the schedule soon!
  • Performers camp: get together with other talented folks to provide music, dancing, and other entertainment.

face paintTwo cabanas are available for people or camps who make a great theme camp proposal.

Remember, theme camps are run with a spirit of community and giving. Please do not charge for your services at this event. See our vendors page for information on vending.

As you are probably beginning to realize, the nature of Cumbre Yah! will be related to how enthusiastic all participants are. Keep this in mind and be thinking between now and the event how you will contribute in your own way and for your own fulfillment.

And, it doesn't hurt to ask questions. If you are curious about a camp, but want to know more, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll happily answer questions. Also, check out the FAQ.
